The dry season usually lasts from June-August. The temperature varies from the low 70´s to high 80´s year around—though during the month of June and July, it can drop to 50 degrees at times. The inland area of Moba´s territory tends to be cooler and at higher elevations.

TECHNOLOGYApart from cell phones, the radio, and a select few that have television, people in Moba have limited access to the world around them.
The broken infrastructure in Congo is the main contributor. Currently, the only access to computers with internet Kirungu are located in the NGOs. These computers are not available for the public to use.

EDUCATIONDespite an intense commitment to education, the schools have a very limited access to new resources and textbooks. Teachers are forced to make do with information and materials passed down through the generations.
Until recently, there weren´t any secondary schools in Moba-Port. Students had to walk over 4.5 miles to the nearest one—demonstrating the students’ commitment and potential to learn. Now there are 5 secondary schools, each with a specific field of focus: biochemistry, fishing, business, and pedagogy (2). There is a College of Rural Development (ISDR/MOBA) in Kirungu. It is a growing higher educational institution that needs updated resources.
Moba is growing and the need for accurate updated information is a great need in the area. Read more about Moba's Education system here. |
The whole area is estimated at 28,000 square-km with a population of nearly 500,000 inhabitants. All of the wars in the country have had adverse effects on the region.
Each time that the population and area seemed to be reaching a turning point and appearing as if it was going to develop, the momentum was broken or stopped. The territory is slowly recovering and getting back on its feet.
This is mostly the fruit of people´s own labor and effort. Several villages that were destroyed are rebuilt. Aid is not big enough to provide for everyone´s needs; the people support themselves. That is one area that Moba's citizens need to be commended and recognized. People must regard them with praise and admiration for the strength that it took to courageously try to take charge of their situation.
