Our Mission

The purpose of Connecting Congo is to enrich and empower Congolese citizens in remote areas, that have been cut off from resources that could further their education, critical thinking, sense of innovation, and development.
We desire to provide them with the opportunity to learn and research information that would not only benefit them as individuals, but as an entire community and nation.

Our Goals

Short Term Goals

  • Receive donations (both laptops and money) to fund the start up costs of computers, accessories, internet, and staff.
  • Open an internet learning center that provides internet services to the community of Moba-Port the first place of the project and surrounding area.
  • Empower the citizens of Moba by utilizing their skills and talents to successfully run the internet learning center and contribute to its success. We will rely on the constant feedback, cooperation, and collaboration of the locals. Connecting Congo will cover the start up costs of the internet learning center. This will help them develop a sense of pride and responsibility in what they are helping accomplish in their community.
  • Initially, we would like to obtain 50 gently used or new laptops to start the community center  Once it is up and running, we will seek larger funding to obtain at least 100 new laptops in order to replace the old ones and free them up for a different uses.
  • Create a laptop checkout program where citizens can take home a used lap-top (and USB card) if they have an assignment or project that they want to work on.
  • Train staff on how to use different programs (word, excel, access, etc) so that classes will be offered at the facility.
  • Obtain 25 keyboards to be used in a typing class.
  • Funding will be needed to provide chairs, tables, and lighting for the facility.

Long Term Goals

  • We want to expand to other remote areas villages/towns throughout Congo.  The second location will be in Kirungu, the closest town to Moba-Port.
  • Create opportunity for students with access to the learning centers to correspond with students from the US, Europe and the rest of the world.  We would like to coordinate a program for students to learn about other cultures and opportunities.
  • Train a staff member at each location to work with students to find scholarships and grants to help further their studies and contribute to the development in their community.
